Between two Breads
On a summer night in 2010, Sanji spiced up an awkward date by blurting out the first thing she thought of... “Uhhhh what sandwich would you rather eat: turkey with pepper jack, tomato, pickled onions and mayo on ciabatta bread OR shrimp with avocado, vinegar based coleslaw and grilled zucchini in a wrap…?”
They stared at each other for a moment before he replied “Is the shrimp fried or grilled?”
The next morning, she told her old college friend Janelle about her new great date game and “Sandwich” was born. Sanji and Janelle started analyzing sandwich combinations with friends, colleagues, and love interests, and the game became a staple at bars, picnics, workdays and birthdays.
Eventually, Sanji and Janelle wanted to make “Sandwich” into a “real game.” They made a preliminary deck of ingredients written out on index cards and started testing different rulesets–noting when the players laughed and screamed “EW!” or “I would totally eat that!” Ultimately, they passed hundreds of hours, created countless funny sandwiches and love the rules as they stand today!
Almost 10 years after that summer night, “Sandwich” is now called “As you ‘Wich”. Sanji is happily married, Janelle–who got Sanji and her fateful date a deli slicer for their wedding–still play “Sandwich," and they’d both love to spread the joy of their beloved game to you.
